Welcome to the first blog from Kipp Gillian owner of Gillian Executive Search, Inc. (
http://www.gessearch.com/ ) and the creator of
http://www.devconjobs.com/. I’m a mechanical engineer that spent a good 7 years working as a Project Manager for both a large general contractor ( Vratsinas Construction Company) and simultaneusly as an Owner’s Representative ( Jacoby Development) in Atlanta, Georgia and eventually Los Angeles, California. I’ve built around 2+ million sf of Shopping Centers Product across the United States.
Perhaps I saw Jerry Maguire a few to many times because after receiving numerous phone calls from recruiters I realized that very few new what they were talking about or cared about what they were doing and that someone should step up and provide a different . I felt that there should be more of a sports agent mentality about the buisness.
So, like all those that venture out on their own, I took the large lonely step into the great unkown of buisness ownership. I created a search firm that focused soley on Real Estate Development and Construction Management (including Architecture and Engineering). Having first hand knowledge of every role within these organizations from superintendents to CEOs our clients found our indepth knowledge as a breath of fresh air. Our client list includes Hilton Hotels, Archstone Apartments, Clark Realty Capital, Donahue Schriber, CIM Group, LNR Property Corporation.
A couple of years later I was firmly convinced that my position within the recruiting realm for real estate was vital when a friend asked me “Do you really care what happens after you place someone”. The answer is an emphatic YES. Now being dubbed the Jerry Maguire of real estate development I strive to profide the best talent to my client firms. Their success is my success and our future as a company.
Has a firm owner I am against using job boards such as Hotjobs, Career Builder, Monster etc. First and foremost that do not have an inkling of knowledge concerning Real Estate Development and Construction Management and secondly you get every fry cook in the world applying to your open positions. . “Construction and Mining” is not a classification that concerns or helps us. Our biggest asset is each other. Nothing is better than making a quick split with another recruiter that you respect. Working together to close more quality deals in a short amount of time should be the goal for all recruiters. We shouldn’t be fighting each other we should be assisting each other. I think there is room for colaboration. I’ve created a new website called
http://www.devconjobs.com/ for this very purpose.
